We sell frame tents every day here at Bigtentsanddomes. com. We heavily supply North and South America and the Carribean Islands with tents, tent accessories and party rental equipment of all types, (both new and used). The majority of tents that we sell as party tents are frame tents because of the clear floor design. Clear span tents are probably the largest tents we sell but their more permanent nature makes them more difficult to install. Many time we recommend to our clients that they check our pole tents to see if they would work for their applications because pole tents cost leass and are the easist and fastest tents to install. (See our "Should I get a pole tent or a frame tent" page below and you will see that pole tents have some advantages in certain situations). Many well balanced party rental companies have a few pole tents in their inventory for their lower prices and the ease of installation but the frame tent is still the workhorse of the party rental tent industry because of their clear floor design and their ease of installation when compared to clear span tents.

and why frame tents still outsell pole tents 10-1. Big Tents And Domes sells all types of tents for all types of purposes. We sell pole tents less these days than we sell frame tents. The world seems to have forgotten about the pole tent. The vey first thing we want to say about the frame tent is that it doesn't have poles in the interior of the tent like a pole tent would and that allows people to do a lot of things like drive forklifts around inside of tent a lot easier and your wedding guests don't slam into the poles after a few drinks. People see the frame tent and the clear floor design that allows you to walk around without the tent support poles and they are sold.
As frame tents become more popular we still suggest and sell quite a few new and used pole tents and I will give you a few good reasons why it is a good idea to put up with those poles in the center of the tent. Pole tents are easier to put up. Pole tents have better wind resistance. Pole tents cost less to manufacture because they have less pieces and therefore cost less to buy.
We find that the main crowd of people who consistently still use pole tents on a regular basis are the vendors who sell fireworks and Christmas trees. If you wonder why that is it is because pole tents have a classic beauty, they are easy to put up and take down, they are good in the wind if sudden storms creep up, and they cost less. These are the same reasons that pole tents have been used for a couple of hundred years. They work well. many of the vendors that use pole tents inherited their businesses from their parents and their parents used pole tents. In theory the poles get in the way quite a bit. In reality we hardly ever see a customer in a fireworks tent that cares whether there are poles in the tent or not. if you are looking to save a few dollars and you want a tent that is really easy to put up and down then a pole tent is a great choice. We recommend pole tents to a lot of our clients but most still want to buy frame tents because of the clear floor design of the frame tent. Here at Bigtentsanddomes we think unless you need use a forklift or you need to ride the family ATV around inside of your tent then you can always hang a few decorations off of the poles inside of the tent so no one will walk into them by mistake and you can get a great tent for less money.
The circus industry has been using pole tents since they started having circuses a couple of hundred years ago and they will probably always use this type of tent. The main reason circus owners still use the pole tent is safety. If the tent is full and the weather gets wild a pole tent will handle it better than any other type of tent except the modern air supported dome structure. (Air supported dome tent structures have withstood hurricane force winds without failing and if you have heard of any dome structure failing it was a steel supported dome tent structure). It took over 200 years to find a design that would outperform this tent design as far as safety. With their classic beauty and form the pole tent still screams out party tent from a distance as you see here and as tent salespeople we recommend these tents a lot of our clients but frame tents still outsell pole tents at a rate of about 10- 1. Here is some information about our pole tent line from Big Tents And Domes For The 2009 season.
If you are considering purchasing a frame tent, there are a few things we would like to make you aware of so you can wisely choose between a frame tent, or a pole tent. Frame tents are more expensive than pole tents because frame tents have a lot more pieces to their design. A pole tent is much more portable than a frame tent, (again less pieces to the tent makes it easier to move and store). Pole tents are easier to install than a frame tent. (Once again if you have less pieces it is faster to set the pole tent up) .Frame tents are NOT “Free Standing” as sometimes advertised on other websites. They must be staked out just like a pole or tension structure must be. The only exception is for indoor use. Pole tents will withstand higher wind loads than a frame tent. Frame tents do have some advantages for certain situations which do not allow complete staking. Of Course the last advantage that a frame tent has over a pole tent is that you don't have those damned poles in the middle of the tent!
Here is a chart which describes typical installation times for installations:
Typical installation time for a 20’x30’ frame tent = 4- men 1.5 hours
Typical installation time for a 20’x30’ pole tent = 2-men 20 minutes
Typical installation time for a 40’x80’ frame tent = 10 men 6-7 hours
Typical installation time for a 40’x80’ pole tent = 2 men 1.5 hours
